   Collect, screenshot and save images of makeup you like and try to figure out what you like about the makeup in the picture.
   Pay attention to the person’s facial features and skin tone in the picture – would the makeup look similar to you?
   If not, it’s probably not a good example.
   Then, once you’ve found and chosen your makeup artist, it’s their job to bring your vision to life.
   
   
2. FIND MAKEUP ARTISTS NEAR YOUR VENUE.
   Start by finding makeup artists near the venue where you want to get ready.
   Check out their websites and social media profiles to see their past work. They should have plenty of examples of brides they’ve worked with – look for photos of bridal makeups, not fashion or creative makeup.
   You need to be able to see past bridal looks from real weddings and make sure they have experience with wedding makeup.

4. HOW LONG WILL MAKEUP TAKE IN A DAY?
   It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to do the bride’s makeup. If you book your makeup artist for your bridesmaids and mothers or other guests, I recommend allowing at least 30 to 45 minutes for each additional person.
   
5. HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
   They should be happy to discuss the packages they offer and give you an estimate over the phone. The level of expertise, location and size of the wedding party will affect the cost.
   
6. WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET SICK ON THE DAY OR HAVE AN EMERGENCY?
   The chances of your makeup artist getting sick or having an emergency on your wedding day are slim, but if you have a contingency plan, you can rest easy.

How far in advance should you book your hair and makeup?

Most makeup artists open their calendar 12 months in advance, and you can start researching earlier to make sure you get your first choice. I wouldn’t recommend doing it later than three months before your wedding day.

Our last word of advice

Don’t be afraid of lashes!
Even if you have soft and natural makeup, a few individual lashes can be special on your big day, and they look great in photos.

Bring a touch up kit with you!
Ensure a bridesmaid or mother of the bride has your lipstick, a powder, a buffing brush, a setting spray and some cotton buds.
A couple of band aids, painkillers and mints are also a great idea to pop in as well.
